Friends of the Library
The purpose of the Friends of the Bangor Public Library is to supplement the library's resources through fund-raising activites and to stimulate interest in, and support for, the Bangor Public Library.
The Friends meet every month at 6:15pm in the Board Room at BPL.
2017 Meeting Dates:
April 20th, May 18th, June 15th, July 20th, August 17th, September 21st, October 19th, November 16th and December 21st.
The Book Sale
In June, we hold our annual Book Sale. Proceeds from past sales have purchased the benches and bicycle rack by the lower entrance, folding chairs and an annual library membership to the New England Genealogical and Historical Society.
A Member Preview is held the day before our Book Sale; each family member may buy up to 50 books.
Member Preview: Friday, June 16, 5-7pm for Friends only, however, anyone may join at the door ($10 individual or $15 family)
Book Sale: June 17th from 9am to 3pm
Pricing is as follows:
- $2 hardcover
- $1 trade paperbacks
- $.50 paperbacks,
- some books specially priced,
- multimedia $1
- VHS 4/$1.
Credit cards are accepted.
Book donations are now being accepted!
Bring them to the Creative Arts Center at 54 Wilson Street in Brewer. Books can be dropped off at the Arts Center from 6:00 am – 10 pm every day.
We use any kind of fiction and non-fiction books in clean readable condition. Sadly, we cannot use textbooks or sets of encyclopedias.
Anyone who gave us books for last year’s Book Sale should go to the Library and take a seat on one of the eight rocking chairs or check out the window shades in the Local History Department your books helped purchase.
The Summer Picnic
The picnic is our 'Thank you' to the library staff and volunteers. All members of the Friends are welcome to participate in this small gesture of our appreciation to those who serve the public so well throughout the year.
We Manage the Masonic Bikes for Books
The Masons will give 18 bikes to the Summer Reading Program. Every time a child reads an age-appropriate book, his or her name goes into a drawing; the more they read, the better their chances of earning a bike and safety helmet.
