| Movies will be shown at the Bangor Public Library on
Saturdays, April 2, April 16 and April 23 at noon.
Call ahead to find out what movie is being shown.
Anything But Silent, the occasional silent movie series
begins again at the Bangor Public Library on Saturday,
April 2 at noon in the Library’s Lecture Hall. The Bangor Public Library and River City Cinema are
pleased to announce that these classic films will once
again feature the piano accompaniment of Harry Weiss.
Mr. Weiss, now 94, started playing piano professionally
in jazz trios and quartets in the Catskills Mountains,
when he was 16. In college at City
University of New York, he had a chance to accompany
D.W. Griffith’s movie, Intolerance. Although Mr.
Weiss did not remain a career pianist, he returned to
accompanying silent films in the 1970’s. He never
plays the same music twice. The movie, the music
and the audience are all in the moment together.
The movies with live accompaniment are always a unique
experience.
Licensing restrictions don’t allow the Library to
publish the titles of the films that will be shown in
the series, but these movies will be films worth seeing.
These events are free and everyone is invited.
The Bangor Public
Library is a founding member of Bangor Arts, a
collaboration inviting the public to discover
and enjoy the excitement of Bangor’s world of
art and culture.
