About Checking Out the Telescope and Microscopes

In order to sign out the telescope, microscopes, and Chromecast stick you must be at least 18 years old, have a library card in good standing (no fines or billed items), and have been a cardholder for at least six months. Pick up will be on Tuesdays through Fridays in the summer and Tuesdays through Saturdays in the winter. Return borrowed items by closing time (7PM in summer, 8 PM in winter) on Mondays. When you pick the telescope up, be prepared to take about 15 minutes to learn about how to use the telescope/microscopes safely, how to carry it and transport the telescope in a car. You will need to show a Driver's License or another government-issued I.D. and sign a user agreement.

Celestron Digital Microscopes

Thanks to a grant received from the Maine Charity Fund of the Maine Community Foundation, do-it-yourself electronics fans, hobbyists and science buffs can now check out two Celestron Digital Microscopes. These are excellent for close-up (magnification ~20X to 200x) views of circuit boards, stamps, coins, shells and more.  The Celestron Digital microscopes require installing software on your home computer and allow you to take pictures and videos. The microscopes circulate with a box of neat things to look at like feathers and fossils which were donated by The Rock and Art Shop of Bangor.

Orion Starblast Telescope

The Bangor Public Library is circulating our new Orion Starblast Telescope and reservations are open for future use. The Orion Starblast is a 4.5 inch reflective telescope. It comes with instructions about using the telescope, a National Audubon Society Pocket Guide to Constellations, and a headlamp. The Telescope was a gift of the Cornerstones of Science.
