Bangor Public Library Annual Fund
100 YEARS OF FREE LIBRARY SERVICE Please Help Us continue the Tradition.
Very few people, if any, are rich enough to buy, own, or store all the books they want or need. People in Bangor discovered that early and started "association" libraries to provide books for members. Our Library traces its beginnings to the Bangor Mechanic Association Library started in 1830. The City joined with the Mechanic Association to start a Public Library in 1883. From 1883 to 1904 people paid to use the Library. In 1905, the service became free to city residents. But keeping the library's doors open and keeping the library stocked costs money. The city of Bangor provides 65% of the Library's annual budget. Please help us continue the tradition of providing books and information to all area residents.
Your help makes our Library great. Please give to the Annual Fund.
