The
Library offers wireless connections to the Internet for wireless-capable
laptops, handheld PDAs, and other wireless devices.
To
connect to the Internet while at the library, you need:
-
A
wireless network interface card, wireless capable laptop or PDA using
the 802.11b protocol (or better).
-
The
ability to configure your laptop to use the library's connection.
Tips for wireless
access:
-
The
Library does not check out wireless cards or PDAs.
This service is designed for you to use with your own laptop
and wireless card or wireless-enabled device
-
Just
in case, you may want to make sure you have a fully charged
battery.
Public electrical outlets may not always be available.
-
Check
your manual if your wireless card isn't working. Library staff has
not had training in wireless products or networks, cannot know about
every kind of hardware and software, and cannot accept the liability
of handling non-library equipment.
-
The
Library is not responsible for any damage, theft, alterations,
interference or loss of any kind to a user's equipment, software,
data files or other personal property brought into or used at the
library’s facilities. All virus and security protection is the
responsibility of the user.
-
The
connection shall not be used for any illegal purposes.
The Library has the right to request a patron disconnect from the
wireless network for violating this rule, for interfering with the
rights of others or for using an excessive amount of network traffic.
-
At
this time printers are not available through the wireless network.
Users who must print need to save work to a floppy disc or email the
file to themselves and log
on at a public workstation. A staff member will be happy to help with
this.
-
All
applicable rules from the Library’s
Computer Use Policy apply to the wireless service.
