The Future of the Bangor Public Library

The Library needs you to help design its future!

This year, the Bangor Public Library celebrates its 100th anniversary in its current building, where it enjoys the largest collection and circulation in Northern New England. In order to maintain its tradition of excellence and to enhance the usersí experience and respond to their expectations, the Library is exploring ways to improve the library experience, including ways the existing space might be redesigned.

How people use libraries is changing, and as technology evolves, the vehicles used to deliver information evolve as well. The Library is committed to continuing to provide a central gathering place with access to modern technology, community programs and the Libraryís extensive collection. Repairs to the historic roof, an increase to the endowment that ensures the Libraryís future, and key investments in design and programs will ensure that it will remain the preeminent Library in the state and region for another 100 years.

Before we make decisions on how best to proceed, we would benefit from your thoughts. We hope that you will share your advice and opinions by completing a brief survey developed by the 2013 Class of the Bangor Region Leadership Institute. Thanks to the support of Governorís Restaurant, your feedback will be rewarded with a $3 coupon for completing the survey, which will take less than 5 minutes of your time and provide invaluable insight to the Library as it charts its future course!  CLICK HERE to take the survey.

In addition, the Library will be holding a series of focus groups in late March to seek more input. Please join us at the Library on March 18th from 5-6 p.m. to discuss the role of the Library in meeting the needs of our community in downtown Bangor, or on March 20th from 5-6 p.m. to discuss the role of the Library in serving children, teens and families. To attend one of these sessions, please RSVP to Kate Villa, Campaign Director, at kvilla@bpl.lib.me.us or by calling 207.947.8336 ext. 105.
