To
kick off this month of “cool jazz,” the highly acclaimed
Lidral Duo (Terry on piano and Karel on sax) will appear
in concert at the Library on Saturday, April 2 at 2 pm
in the Lecture Hall. Karel Lidral, who has played
saxophone with many jazz greats in his decades as a
professional musician, is also the founder of a program
at the University of Maine that grants minor degrees in
jazz performance. Terry Lidral has perfected a
style of piano accompaniment that makes the Lidral Duo’s
performances memorable. Everyone is invited to this free
performance.
On Wednesday, April 6 at 6:30
pm, the University of Maine Chamber Jazz Ensemble will
perform in the Story Room. You are invited to this free
event that will have all the ambience and feel of a
small jazz club, packed with happy listeners enjoying
good music.
On
Saturday, April 16, at 3 pm, Norman Granz Jazz in
Montreux: Roy Eldridge '77 will be shown in the
Library’s Lecture Hall. Karel Lidral and noted jazz
historian, Dr. Jay Bregman will lead a discussion of the
film and jazz in general after the movie.
All these programs are free
and open to the public at the Bangor Public Library.
Bangor Public Library is a founding member of Bangor
