:: Play Reading Group ::

PLAY READING GROUP TO PERFORM EACH MONTH AT THE BANGOR PUBLIC LIBRARY

Bangor Public Library’s new Play Reading Group will read the work, Holiday by Philip Barry on Tuesday, January 17 at 5:30 pm and again on Saturday, January 21 at 2:00 pm. The group will hold two sessions each month, to read a play and talk about it. The same play will be read in both sessions, which will make the play available for those who prefer either a weekend or an afternoon timeslot. In the upcoming months, plays will be chosen from a wide range of American and European plays, modern and classic, comic and dramatic. “This is a great way to experience the great wealth of wonderful plays out there, without the time commitment of a full rehearsal schedule,” says Irene Dennis, a local actor and director who will facilitate Holiday. The public is invited to come read, or if a little shy at first, come listen to others read the work of the month.

The group will start things off with a bang by reading Holiday, a sparkling romantic comedy with a New Year's theme. This delightful romp was written by Philip Barry, best known for his play, The Philadelphia Story. Holiday deals with a wealthy American family having to cope when a beautiful free spirit comes into their lives. Both Holiday and The Philadelphia Story were made into famous films starring Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant.
Tuesday sessions will be led by Irene Dennis. Library volunteer, Maria Kreilkamp, will facilitate on Saturdays. The BPL Play Reading Group is open to anyone who would like to try reading a part or to those who wish to listen to others perform. No registration is necessary and latecomers are always welcome. All are invited to participate, from experienced actors to those who have never read a play.
